Tuesday, June 3, 2008 (Middle column, near bottom of DCCC ballot)
I'm running for Democratic County Central Committee in the 13th Assembly District for the first time (and what a wild ride it has been) because I feel strongly about supporting the Democratic Party, developing leaders and supporting democratic causes, but more importantly because I want to expand the reach and message of the Party to include the voices from the "neighborhoods."
San Francisco has a beautiful and vibrant culture with each neighborhood contributing its own unique character. In my 18 years in San Francisco, I've seen first-hand how neighborhood participation can increase the quality of life for all residents.
I have many years of experience in campaigning, community action, organizing, in political campaigns, community organizations and in the music and arts community. I would like to contribute to the efforts of the DCCC in reaching out to these overlooked communities and mobilize voters, and communicate the Democratic Party position on local issues and candidates. It is important to reach out to new constituencies and I can offer a fresh perspective to the DCCC as political outsider.
